Shame On Us! 6
Yesterday at church our services began with a comical video by a George Bush impostor. People laughed all the way through it and generally thought it was a cute video. Well the video was a call or maybe better yet a CRY for more volunteers in our Children’s Ministry. This isn’t anything new for us at River Oaks either. There has always been a need for volunteers in our Children’s Ministry, and maybe now more than ever.
I don’t know about you, but this really breaks my heart. We have children growing up in our church and no one’s there to teach them about the Lord. Shame on us for letting this happen to our children!
On the other hand we have some amazing volunteers who sacrifice over and over for our children and are slowly burning out because no one else is stepping up to the plate to help. Shame on us for letting this happen to our volunteers!
When will this change? Oh how I long for the day when we have a body of believers at River Oaks and beyond who passionately want to make a difference in the lives of others for the sake of Christ. I’m not talking about people who would say they agree with that statement. I’m talking about people who will live out the two greatest commands – love God and love others. Our children could certainly use some love. Who’s going to step up to the plate?
Sorry for the rant, but my heart breaks for these kids.

exactly. shame on us. thanks, Tommy, for having the courage to type this and publish it. i dare us to read this and not ignore it. i’m done ignoring God, who has been telling me to get back involved for a couple of months now. i triple dog dare you to join me in serving our kids …
{and for anyone who has watched the movie “Christmas Story,” you know you can’t ignore a triple dog dare
Well said. I have heard the statistic that most of the work in your average church is done by 20% of the people in the church. Very sad, but in my experience, very true.
I think a better approach to get people to help would be to listen to the rest of the sermon that was given by Pastor Tim yesterday and SHOW LOVE…….maybe find out the biggest reason why people will not serve. If people are not stepping up, there must be a reason and maybe God is trying to lead us in another direction with Childrens ministry. REMEMBER 1Cor. 13 and Gal. 5:22 & 23
Thanks for your thoughts. Ears must always be open, especially from leadership. I totally agree with what Rachel said. If you or someone you know has thoughts, please get in touch with Greg. He’d love to hear what you or someone you know has to say.
@Lee if this is the case for you or for someone you know, I’d encourage you to talk with Greg McDonough (children’s pastor) or someone else in leadership at the church, if you don’t want to talk directly with him. He seems pretty open to figuring out the issues/problems and working toward solutions. Since he’s still meeting people, he could probably use your help
