Fun/Funny:

This past Sunday night I surprised all of the high school students by buying Papa John’s pizza for everyone.  Yeah it was gooooooood!!!  Not much is better than free pizza.

Overview:

This past Sunday we concluded our series by talking about finding happiness in God despirt circumstances – no matter the problem!  Is that even possible?  Can someone find happiness in God when their friend commits suicide?  What about when someone’s dad dies?  What about when a teenager comes down with cancer? Area Youth Rally

Youth groups (7th-12th graders) from various churches in our area will be   coming together for a special youth rally at Elkhart Christian Academy on Wednesday, March 31 from 7:15-8:15pm (25948 CR 22, Elkhart).

The night will be a mix of fun, worship through singing, and teaching by the youth pastor from Granger Community Church. 

Try to arrive by 7:00pm so we can sit together.  You will need transportation to and from ECA.

Jimtown Student Killed

I just received a text saying a junior at Jimtown High School was killed in a car accident this morning.  I don’t know any other details at this time.

Please pray for the students’ family, the students, and staff during this very difficult time.  May God bring some good out of this tragedy…

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) – “Now to him (God) who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

Series: AM I HAPPY (week 3 of 4) – March 21, 2010

Fun/Funny:

This past Sunday I showed the students a couple pictures of me.  The first one is from when I was 18 – trying to look cool, and the second one was about a year and a half later when I was 19 - I grew out my hair & beard while I studied in Israel for a semester.

 Overview:

Can our appearance bring us happiness?  What if we had the “right” clothes?  What if we could lose some weight or gain some muscle?  What if…..

Open Mic Night 3 is Coming!!!

Open Mic Night 3 is coming April 25th.  This is an opportunity for any 7th-12th grade student to perform on stage before an audience, and judges for prizes.

What can you do?  Sing a song, play a song on an instrument, do a comedy sketch, lip sing dance, etc.

Sign-Ups are available in the black room starting this Sunday Night, March 21st.

Series: AM I HAPPY (week 2 of 4) – March 14, 2010

Fun/Funny:

This past Sunday we introduced our new monthly “crazy announcements” section with “Sundae Announcements with Megan and Haley.”  Basically they made sundae’s on each other’s head as they gave announcements (whipped cream, chocolate and caramel sauce, cookies, sprinkles, etc).  Yeah it was pretty funny.  I’ll put up a video soon.

Overview:

Can our accomplishements or successes bring us happiness?  Will getting all A’s on a report card?  Will excelling in sports?

Notes:

We spent some time looking at two different people from the Bible and how they viewed success.

The first person was the Apostle Paul – prior to putting his faith in Jesus his view of success was all about the things he did (Philippians 3:4-6).  (more…)

Everyday Choices: Life or Death

Each morning I try to spend some time focused with the Lord.  Trust me it doesn’t always happen, but it did today.  Before I spend time reading the Bible I always make it a priority to pray.  It’s not a long prayer.  It really isn’t that complicated.  It’s simply a prayer asking God to reveal something to me.  Something that I need to hear.  Something that I need to learn.  Something! 

In my time with Him this morning He revealed something to me from Deuteronomy 30:15-16.  Here’s what it says (bold words are my emphasis):

“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster. 16 For I command you this day to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. (more…)

HS AMP Review: Vol 1

What’s this all about?  Each week I’m going to give a brief overview of what happened on a Sunday Night AMP.  Basically this is for three main reasons:

  1. For students who weren’t able to come – I want you to be able to know what happenend.
  2. For students who want to take another look at some of the main points and verses that were talked about.
  3. For parents – I want you to know what was taught on, so you can follow-up with your child when opportunities arise.

So here goes:

Overview:

In John 10:10 Jesus says, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”  If that’s Jesus’ purpose, why are there so many unhappy and lonely people in the world and inside the church?  Where do relationships fall into our search for happiness? (more…)

“AM I HAPPY” – new HS Series

This Sunday night we’re starting a new HS (High School) series called “AM I HAPPY: the search for something more.”

In this series we’re going to deal with questions like:

  • What is happiness?
  • Can we really be happy?
  • Why do we fake being happy?
  • Where do we try to find happiness?

HS students – I hope you can make it.  By the way, can you think of a friend that could really benefit from this series?  If so, take a few minutes to pray for your friend.  After you’ve prayed, take a risk and invite your friend.
